Due Diligence - Moon in Capricorn 6/24 - 6/26
THE GOOD
When the Moon occupies the sign of Capricorn, it’s as if the Queen of Heaven has entered into….the dungeon. Or the IRS auditing center. Or even better, a very large accounts payable office without any windows. It’s humdrum, it’s work, it’s filled with duty, responsibility, and a sense of obligation.
Look, I’m not hating on Capricorn (I am a Capricorn), but the fact of the matter is that the Moon doesn’t like to be here so much. This is not a time for comfort, sweetness, and hot chocolate by a fire. It’s a time to put your nose to the grindstone and get things done.
And that leads me to the strength of Capricorn. Capricorn is sturdy, steadfast, diligent, and exceptionally reliable. When it comes to sorting out the mundane, bland, material sides of your existence, this is the time to sigh heavily, roll up your sleeves, and put the effort in. You will be greatly rewarded for doing your duty, being diligent in your work, and pushing yourself to fulfill your responsibilities even when it’s difficult.
We have a fantastic sextile from Jupiter in his rulership of Pisces during this period. The Jupiter sextile provides expansiveness, optimism, emotional buoyancy, and hope. Positivity and an expansive outlook on life will carry you through the work that you engage in during this period. You can also receive help from teachers, authority figures, and mentors to help push you forward.
THE BAD
It’s a Capricorn Moon. The whole atmosphere just feels heavier, weightier, and less fun. It’s like a long rainy day. Expect to have less motivation to get anything done or accomplished in the world. Expect to feel like there are things that you should try and get done, but you won’t have much motivation to actually accomplish much. Questions of duty, discipline, and obligation all arise here. Be on the lookout for shame spirals.
This is also a full Moon, meaning that the Sun opposes the Moon during this period. This carries a lot of advantages for group ritual work, celebrating culminations and the fruits of our labor, and the letting go of old patterns of being as we progress forward and prepare for a new cycle,
The disadvantages involve a great tension between our needs and our wants, and between our environments and our desires. It can be difficult to actually get anything done during this period, as the Sun and Moon - the two most important members of the astrological pantheon - pull at each other and compete with each other for prominence and authority. Think of the people that you know with a Sun-Moon opposition in their chart - they generally have an inherent tension between two competing ways of being, and one never really wins out over the other.
How can you meet resistances without losing your emotional center? What can you do during this period to cultivate joy in your labor no matter what arises? If you find answers to these questions and can apply them, your work will take you far.
THE WYRD
The Greek Magical Papyri (PGM) says this about the Cap Moon: “say whatever you wish for best results.” If nothing else, the grounded, sturdy, reliable nature of Capricorn opens up a lot of doorways. You can do most kinds of magic here - all you have to do is speak it into being.
A Saturn ritual for letting go would be auspicious on Saturday morning in the hour of Saturn. The Moon will be waning, and Saturn aids in releasing attachments, bad habits, etc. This would also serve well for grounding yourself.
Remember, everything that I tell you here needs to be indexed to your natal chart, especially the house placement of the Moon, any major transits and the time lords in your life. A strong period for one person may be more challenging for another. I am currently taking on new clients for readings, and I would be very happy to walk you through your own chart and astrological weather - book a session with me here!
Astrological Signatures
Entry: Thursday, June 24th at 9:04am EDT / 1:04pm UTC.
Departure: Saturday, June 26th at 10:08am EDT / 2:08pm UTC.
Moon in Capricorn: Detriment of the Moon. The Capricornian emphasis on duty, social cohesion, and work ethic tends to overpower the Moon’s emphasis on nurture and self-care. Outer events won’t conspire to make you feel emotionally comfortable; hard work and discipline will be asked of you instead.
Triplicity and Quadruplicity: Moveable Earth. Movability (cardinality) indicates short and quick bursts of activity that are cut short and not seen through as often. The Moon and our own moods, activities, and attention spans tend to flit from one thing to the next. The earth element emphasizes the physical body and propensity for work, and the Moon in an earth sign often expresses more practicality, groundedness, and a concern for the material world.
Moon’s ruler: Aversion to Saturn in Aquarius, but this is offset by the like-engirding or homozonias principle in virtue of them being in signs of the same rulership. This provides decent support to ensure that the Moon’s significations will ground and that the work done during this period will be long-lasting.
Relationship to the Sun: Opposition to the Sun in Cancer. This is a very challenging placement. You will find consistent roadblocks, obstacles, and difficulties coming from outer situations and circumstances to frustrate your will. As is usual with this alignment, just be patient and remember that it won’t be long before these key planets form a positive aspect again.
Aspect
Opposition to Venus in Cancer. There are strained relationships between yourself and others. The arts suffer, and the muses lie silent. This is a time to be gentle in balancing your own needs and those of others.
Superior Sextile to Jupiter in Pisces. Help will come in through the avenues of teachers and guides. There is emotional buoyancy, and an opportunity for optimism, financial growth, and greater spiritual wisdom.
