Motions of the Moon - 6/14 - 6/20

June 14th - 15th - Moon in Aries

The Moon will spend the beginning of this week in the Sign of Aries. This is a neutral placement for the moon. She is peregrine here in medieval astrology, without any essential dignity and so completely at the mercy of her host, Mars. In Hellenistic astrology, she is in the place of her sectmate: since the Moon and Mars are both of the nighttime sect, there is some kinship felt between the moon and her ruler, and so she is not completely debilitated here.

The Moon in Aries makes for a very fiery, energized, productive couple of days. There is greater potential to get things done, and you may feel inspired to accomplish and achieve more than usual. This placement affords greater opportunity to achieve success at any goals you give yourself. However, the heat of Aries can easily cause the moon to burn out, and we generally see that people with this placement natally will have bursts of enthusiasm and inspiration that are difficult to maintain. Use these couple of days as a time to get creative and enact some new ideas, but don’t expect all of the inspiration to carry over very far.

The moon is averse to her ruler, Mars, who is currently in Pisces. This makes burnout a greater threat, since Mars is unable to ensure that the negative significations of the Moon in Aries get out of hand. It may be difficult to keep the momentum during this period going. On the plus side, there is greater opportunity for emotional development and interconnectedness with others than usual for Aries Moon periods.

Speaking of which, the moon will form a sextile to Venus. This helps to promote group activities and social cohesion, and people are more inclined to be charming and friendly with each other. The moon also forms a sextile to Mercury, which will make communication easier during this time. You are more likely to get along with friends and family, and conversations are more likely to go smoothly. This will also help to support teamwork in a business setting, and ensure that meetings are productive.

On the 15th, the Moon forms a square to Pluto. The positive inspiration of Aries will continue, but you may find some darker emotions swelling up today. Depression and confusion are common feelings related to Pluto. If you haven’t taken measures to keep yourself from burning out, then the fatigue and exhaustion may hit you very strongly. Be sure to take care of yourself – wearing a ruby or bloodstone – active stones related to Mars – will help to fend off any negative mental loops and keep you centered in your creativity and Spirit.

June 16th - 18th – Moon in Taurus

After her stint in Aries, the Moon moves into her exaltation in the Sign of Taurus on June 16th at 10:35am UTC. T his is a very positive placement. These next two-and-a-half days will be excellent for emotional development and physical support. This is a wonderful period to take care of your body and nourish yourself. Use this quarantine as an excuse to stay in and pamper yourself. Take a salt bath, eat healthy foods, and give yourself a massage. The Moon herself is also more benefic during this period, making this a good time to do lunar magic and workings.

Unfortunately, the moon does not form an aspect to her ruler, Venus, and so she doesn’t have help grounding or integrating her significations here. Venus is also retrograde, making the significations of the moon less grounded and successful in terms of making things happen and getting things accomplished. Don’t expect projects that are begun during this time to last very long or remain realistic. However, this is a good time to do more inner work, continuing to take care of yourself and reflect on some new habits to put in place which will be helpful for you.

The Moon is conjunct Uranus on the 16th. At best, you may experience out-of-this-world insights about your life that feel difficult to integrate. At worst, something difficult or painful could happen to your body. The nature of Uranus is chaotic and difficult to predict, in part since astrologers don’t have millenia of experience with it as with the other seven traditional planets. But generally, the results of a moon-uranus conjunction are difficult and create troubles related to the body and mind.

The moon also forms squares to Saturn on the 16th. The Saturn square may make it difficult for you to get the things you need in order to nourish and take care of yourself. Maybe the grocery store is out of Epsom salts, or candles, or some other thing you were really hoping to have. You may find that you are guilting yourself for doing something you love when other people are suffering, or because of some other high-minded consideration that involves all of humanity (from Saturn being in Aquarius). Turqouise, a stone co-ruled by Saturn and the Moon, will be helpful to have around during this day.

The Moon forms a sextile to Mercury, whom she currently rules in virtue of Mercury’s placement in Cancer. Thoughts will flow freely, and conversations will abound. If you choose to engage with other people in a meaningful way, the stars will support you during this period. This is an excellent period for ritual, and reaching across the veil to connect with beings on the other side. This is strengthened by the fact that the Moon is currently waning.

If you can get through the crazy ups and downs early on during this period, you will receive some help later on from the moon’s trine to Jupiter. Though Jupiter is currently in his fall, he can still offer us some help, even if this help merely takes the shape of a stern and hard lesson from a mentor, or a realization that the one thing you have to do to fix all your troubles is some very boring, repetitive, mundane task, like exercising or meditating daily. Still, some help is better than none.

June 18th - 20th – Moon in Gemini

The Moon becomes peregrine in the sign of Gemini on June 18th at 9:59pm UTC, where she will stay for the rest of the week. This is a good day for mental activity: writing and journaling are both activities that will be supported today. The air signs are also considered the most social signs – calling friends and having conversations will be natural activities to occur now, and you will find yourself being chattier and more verbal than usual, especially if you have planets in the sign of Gemini natally.  On the downside, Moon in Gemini can create anxiety and nervous tension, as one has the desire to engage in a million things at once, becoming overwhelmed very easily.

Although the moon is averse to her ruler Mercury, some of this difficulty is mitigated by the fact that they are in co-rulership. This helps the moon to stay grounded and supported during her time here, without getting too far up in the clouds and disconnected from reality. This will also serve as usual to help ground her significations and make them longer lasting. Conversation, dialogue, and discussion will in general be more productive because of this sextile.

And this is all the more so true because of the conjunction to Venus. The moon-Venus conjunction will make people friendlier towards each other and more inclined to be helpful. Conversations will run more smoothly, and the mutual sharing of ideas through discussion and debate will be more fruitful. If you are able to visit friends during this quarantine, today would be a good day to do so.
