THE GOOD

The Queen of Heaven is seated upon her throne in the sign of Cancer, as this is the place of her rulership. But unlike most kings and rulers, the Moon’s place of power is with the common people, sharing in their lives and desiring emotional well being for all. Like most effective Queens, the Moon desires safety, security, and nourishment of all kinds for her people, and this is where she has the power and authority to provide us with that. You will have your needs met more quickly, and you will find grace and ease for receiving what it is you need.

But just to reiterate: Cancer Moon periods are great, but if you’re looking for an opportunity to seize the day, check a million things off your to do list, and just generally feel AMPED up…you’re going to be disappointed. This is the time for gentleness, quiet reflection, and receptivity. Release your own attachment to results and surrender to what the universe has to offer you right now. Let the Queen take care of you.

Regarding support from other planets, the Moon receives a sextile from the Sun in Taurus. Now the divine lovers are in harmony, creating a general flow of grace and ease between our own intentions and desires and what our world and surroundings are actually supporting us to do.

Additionally, Jupiter has moved into Pisces, one of his places of rulership, forming a fantastic superior trine to the Moon in Cancer. This will create feelings of trust, faith, and hope that the Universe is providing for you and bringing you where you need to be. You will be more emotionally buoyant, and your renewed enthusiasm and vigor for life will bring in new opportunities for you to take up space and be confidant in your abilities. Depending on your own natal chart and current time lord periods, doorways could open up for you around finances.

THE BAD

Our greatest challenge during this period comes from the Moon’s conjunction to Mars. This always creates a lot of anger, rashness, and self-destructive impulses. Mar’s placement in Cancer worsens this, as the emotional and intuitive focus of Cancer is a poor fit for the energy of Mars. It is easy to be overridden by passion and emotional and lose sight of the crucial elements of logic and reason that inform and guide our behaviors. Think before you act. Do not jump into anything without giving it any forethought.

THE WYRD

The Greek Magical Papyri (PGM) recommends the Cancer Moon period as an excellent time for protection spells. This makes sense, see the notes on emotional safety above. Cancer Moon emphasizes the value of deeper, more comprehensive definitions of what it means to be truly safe. What will make you feel safer? What forces make you afraid and keep you from using your gifts? Use this as an opportunity to release those fears, and create boundaries around the triggers as well.

This is a great period for lunar magic, obviously. The Moon is in Cancer on a Monday is a fantastic window for working with the Moon, especially as she is waxing. Did you do a new Moon spell last Monday? If you did, this will be an excellent time to check in with the Moon about your requests, and see if there is anything you can do to move things forward more.

Remember, everything that I tell you here needs to be indexed to your natal chart, especially the house placement of the Moon, any major transits and the time lords in your life. Moon in Cancer: Rulership of the Moon - strong essential dignity. Nurturing and supportive. Emotional exploration is strongly supported here, as well as stillness and introspection. Not a good time for hard work or trying to get a lot done, but passivity and quietude will take you very far.

Triplicity and Quadruplicity: Movable water. Movability (cardinality) indicates brief and quick bursts of activity that are cut short and not seen through as often. The Moon and our own moods, activities, and attention spans tend to flit from one thing to the next. The water element emphasizes the emotional and inner life, and people tend to prioritize their own inner states and unconsciousness patterns. The atmosphere takes a very reflective and introspective tone.

Moon’s ruler: The Moon is her own ruler in Cancer, part of the reason this placement is so positive. Time spent well during this period can always have long-lasting results.

Relationship to the Sun: Inferior Sextile to the Sun in Taurus. There will be harmony between your own desires and intentions and what your environment and circumstances support. Things will work out more easily, and feelings of flow and synchronicity will abound.

• Conjunction to Mars in Cancer. Turmoil, tension, and emotional frustration. The fall of Mars in Cancer can greatly agitate people and stir up lots of emotional negativity.

• Inferior Trine to Jupiter in Pisces. By now, Jupiter has moved into his own domicile in Pisces, forming a trine with the Moon in Cancer. This is a very positive aspect, bringing expansion, support, clarity, and deepening one’s sense of purpose.
