Surrender into Inspiration - Moon in Sagittarius 5/25 - 5/27

THE GOOD

Finally, it’s Sag Moon time! We once again have the opportunity to experience the glorious resurrection - the ascent of the Moon from the chthonic depths of Scorpio to the lofty, fiery domain of Jupiter, lord of priests, pontiffs, and kings.

The Sagittarius Moon opens up opportunities to get creative, explore, broaden your horizons, and seek new experiences that challenge yet ultimately uplift you. The Queen changes into her role as Artemis, the Huntress, who is well versed in her own feminine, yin power, but equally imbued with the fiery, yang power to claim what she wants from the world and project her will into reality. The Jupiterian nature of Sagittarius infuses the Moon with a sense of purpose, gives her a horse, and sends her off seeking new horizons to explore.

Jupiter is forming a square to the Moon now, and so he can keep a watchful eye on her to make sure that her energy here is greatly supported and held. You will have many opportunities to push yourself out of your comfort zone and expand your spirit, and you will be greatly supported and rewarded if you choose to do so. With my clients, I often describe the squares that Jupiter forms as growing pains. The growth that we undergo isn’t necessarily easy, but it is always in our best interest, and it is easy to immediately see the benefit of it.

Additionally, that rough square from Saturn in the last period has also turned into a supportive sextile. Saturn will help to keep you grounded without making you feel weighed down - this is honestly a good thing considering how out-of-hand the fiery nature of Sag can become without a healthy dose of realism and practicality. Don’t worry about getting lost in the clouds.

What practical steps can you take to push yourself out of your comfort zone, expand your image of yourself, and grow as a person? How can you spread sunshine and mirth into other peoples’ lives around you over the next few days, even if you yourself aren’t feeling super upbeat?

THE BAD

The main challenge here is an opposition that the Moon forms to the Sun. This is more colloquially known as a full Moon, and carries a lot of advantages for group ritual work, celebrating culminations and the fruits of our labor, and the letting go of old patterns of being as we progress forward and prepare for a new cycle,

The disadvantages involve a great tension between our needs and our wants, and between our environments and our desires. It can be difficult to actually get anything done during this period, as the Sun and Moon - the two most important members of the astrological pantheon - pull at each other and compete with each other for prominence and authority. Think of the people that you know with a Sun-Moon opposition in their chart - they generally have an inherent tension between two competing ways of being, and one never really wins out over the other.

Be mindful of trying to force anything during this period. You will have great opportunities to explore and experiment with new ways of being, but you won’t necessarily make any lasting headway with anything. That is okay - it’s just part of the process.

THE WYRD

Do a Jupiter ritual in the evening hour of Jupiter on Thursday night after the Moon has gone into Sag. We had this exact alignment open up the last two months, so this is your final chance. Jupiter is quite strong in Pisces, and the aspect from the Moon in his yang, masculine sign opens a fantastic portal for abundance and expansion - especially related to finances.

The Greek Magical Papyri (PGM) identifies Sag Moon as a great period for doing solar and lunar magic as well. These two lights have a special way of strengthening your magical power that the other five planets can’t touch. Find a Sun or Moon hour in the next few days and get to work.

Remember, everything that I tell you here needs to be indexed to your natal chart, especially the house placement of the Moon, any major transits and the time lords in your life. A strong period for one person may be more challenging for another. I am currently taking on new clients for readings, and I would be very happy to walk you through your own chart and astrological weather - book a session with me here!

Moon in Sagittarius: Peregrine. This is a neutral placement, leaning a bit more towards the negative. The Moon has no essential dignity and is not in the place of a sectmate. On the plus side, she tends to encourage big picture thinking, creative expansion, and broadening of experience during this time. The timbre is optimistic and hopeful. This is a good day for pushing your boundaries, getting out of your comfort zone, and trying new things.

Triplicity and Quadruplicity: Bicorporeal Fire. Bicorporeality indicates activities and moods which are a mean between the extremes of movability (cardinality) and fixedness, not as erratic and changing as the former, but not as solid and steady as the latter. The fire element indicates the realm of spirit and ideals, and the Moon in a fire sign often expresses more enthusiasm, spontaneity, and creative, heart-centered expression.

Moon’s ruler: Superior bi-corporeal square to Jupiter in Pisces. There is support for the Moon in grounding her significations, and the groundedness of long-term plans will come about fairly easily.

Relationship to the Sun: Opposition to the Sun in Gemini. This is a very challenging placement. You will find consistent roadblocks, obstacles, and difficulties coming from outer situations and circumstances to frustrate your will. As is usual with this alignment, just be patient and remember that it won’t be long before these key planets form a positive aspect again.

Aspects

  • Opposition to Mercury in Gemini. The use of the mind and reason is more challenging. Communication in general is much more strained, and conversations could become unnecessarily volatile. Distinctions and reasoning become blurred by passion.

  • Opposition to Venus in Gemini. There are strained relationships between yourself and others. The arts suffer, and the muses lie silent. This is a time to be gentle in balancing your own needs and those of others.

  • Superior Sextile to Saturn in Aquarius. Hard lessons that come through which effectively push people closer towards maturity and wisdom. Difficult experiences that teach you something profound and ultimately make you thankful for them.
