Solace in Spirit - Moon in Scorpio 5/23 - 5/25

THE GOOD

Scorpio Moons are good for one thing: diving into all that yucky, painful, shadowy, emotional gunk that we never want to actually look at. This is your opportunity to do shadow work in an extremely effective way.

Fortunately, we have two trines coming our way during this period. The first is from Jupiter in Pisces - such a lovely water trine from an exceptionally positive planet. In Pisces, Jupiter typifies the mystic - one who has completely surrendered to the flow of life. This is an especially helpful ally to have during the Scorpio Moon period - you can expect emotionally buoyancy and uplifted spirits to carry you through this underworld period. You won’t be doing it alone, either, and will find friends and allies coming to support you through your process. Find your solace during this underworld trial in the Spirit that guides all things - Jupiter will be sure to take you there.

The other trine comes to us from Mars in Cancer. This can be helpful for cultivating boundaries and a steely resolve to face the shadows. However, in the past this mutual reception between Mars in Cancer and the Moon in Scorpio has indicated all kinds of nastiness on a political stage. Don’t be surprised if some fairly challenging civic developments occur.

THE BAD

The main difficulty with a Scorpio Moon is that…it’s a Scorpio Moon. Generally speaking, people don’t want to do shadow work and live in the underworld. Nobody that I know really enjoys that process. We’ll just have to bear with it and use it to our advantage as best we can.

(The difficulty of a Scorpio Moon is not a derogatory mark against people who were natally born with a Scorpio Moon. I cannot stress this enough. It is the Moon which is in fall here, not the individuals who have a Scorpio Moon in their charts. Nevertheless, an understanding of the difficulties associated with a Scorpio Moon will help everyone who has this placement to better understanding themselves and integrate their trauma.)

There is also a square from Saturn. As Saturn is the malefic of the daytime sect, much of the challenges he brings are more ethereal and internalized. Think 12th house themes of self-sabotage, isolation, and dark nights of the soul. There can be a lot of negative self-talk and personal frustration. If you are prone to depression and shame spirals, you could find yourself being taken over by thought-loops and negative reality-tunnels.

The silver lining: This period lasts less than two days. Once the Moon goes Void of Course on Tuesday afternoon (EDT) we are home free.

THE WYRD

More of the Via Combusta (the Burnt Path) - pretty much all day Wednesday. The Scorpionic side of the Via Combusta is especially notorious for insanity and demonic possession.

The Greek Magical Papyri tells us that the Moon in Scorpio is an excellent period for black magic. We here at ancientastrology.org do not endorse the use of black magic. But it gives you another lens through which to view what the Scorpio Moon is all about.

Spellwork is not really advised during this period, unless you have a Scorpio Moon natally. If that’s the case, you may perform workings or castings for releasing attachments and letting go of fear. With the mutual reception between Mars and the Moon, binding spells will be productive and more effective than usual. Just make sure that the person you’re binding really needs to be bound. Every binding spell - whether ethical or not - has a cost.

Remember, everything that I tell you here needs to be indexed to your natal chart, especially the house placement of the Moon, any major transits and the time lords in your life. A strong period for one person may be more challenging for another. I am currently taking on new clients for readings, and I would be very happy to walk you through your own chart and astrological weather - book a session with me here!

ASTROLOGICAL SIGNATURES

Entry: Sunday, May 23rd at 11:00pm EDT / Monday, May 24th at 3:00am UTC.

Departure: Tuesday, May 25th at 10:39pm EDT / Wednesday, May 25th at 2:39am UTC.

Moon in Scorpio: Fall of the Moon. This is a very challenging placement. The whole world feels a little unsteady. It is difficult to accomplish anything or get anything done in the material sense of things. Difficult emotions will continue to arise, and it may be easy to fall into an emotional hole or get stuck in a rut. However, Scorpio Moons are good times to take a pause from work and do introspection, especially into one’s own shadow and the darker parts of the personality that one would rather ignore.

Triplicity and Quadruplicity: Fixed Water. Fixedness indicates prolonged activities and an overall steadiness in people’s moods. The Moon in fixed signs makes activities more stable and their duration longer. The water element emphasizes the emotional and inner life, and people tend to prioritize their own inner states and unconsciousness patterns. The atmosphere takes a very reflective tone.

Moon’s ruler: Trine to Mars in Cancer. There is great help and support for grounding the Moon’s significations in reality and making long-term plans come to fruition. However, this mutual reception into each other’s fall could create a lot of explosive emotions and situations.

Relationship to the Sun: Aversion to the Sun in Gemini. This is a neutral placement. Circumstances will not actively support your personal agenda, but they will not go out of their way to hinder you either.

Aspects

  • Superior Water Trine to Jupiter in Pisces. As described above, this trine to Jupiter will help you through the challenges of a Scorpio Moon. Spirit, teachers, and mentors will be there to add grace to your endeavors in the shadowlands.

  • Superior Fixed Square to Saturn in Aquarius. Negative self-talk, rumination, challenges with self-worth and esteem. Confusion and lack of clarity can also be present. It will be difficult to get anything done. These troubles will be quite persistent with the fixed nature of the square.
