April 26th – 27th – Moon in Gemini
At the start of the week, the moon is peregrine in the sign of Gemini. This is a good day for mental activity: writing and journaling are both activities that will be supported today. The air signs are also considered the most social signs – calling friends and having conversations will be natural activities to occur now, and you will find yourself being chattier and more verbal than usual, especially if you have planets in the sign of Gemini natally. On the downside, Moon in Gemini can create anxiety and nervous tension, as one has the desire to engage in a million things at once, becoming overwhelmed very easily.
She applies a sextile to her ruler on the 26th. This helps the moon to stay grounded and supported during her time here, without getting too far up in the clouds and disconnected from reality. This will also serve as usual to help ground her significations and make them longer lasting. Conversation, dialogue, and discussion will in general be more productive because of this sextile.
And this is all the more so true because of the conjunction to Venus. The moon-Venus conjunction that becomes exact on the 26th will make people friendlier towards each other and more inclined to be helpful. Conversations will run more smoothly, and the mutual sharing of ideas through discussion and debate will be more fruitful. If you are able to visit friends during this quarantine, today would be a good day to do so.
April 27th – 29th – Moon in Cancer
After her stay in Gemini the Moon moves into cancer, where she has rulership. This is generally an auspicious time, where the moon on her own becomes much more benefic and positive. Issues related to emotional exploration, self care, nurture of the self and others, and dreamwork will all be greatly supported during this time. Since the Moon occupies her rulership here, she is not dependent on an aspect to any other planet in order for these significations to ground and guarantee success.
Moon in Cancer is an excellent time for reflectivity. As a yin sign, Cancer supports introspection and more receptive, passive activities. This is not an ideal period for trying to get a lot done quickly (wait for a fire sign to do that), but there is a great potential for productivity and success if you engage in activities that are supported by the Moon’s movement through Cancer.
The moon forms a waxing sextile to the sun. This is an excellent opportunity to begin or continue on new ventures that were begun at the new moon. There is more congruence between your own desires and intentions and what the world around you is offering you. There are less likely to be any roadblocks or major upsets during this time. The moon also forms a sextile to Mercury, providing more opportunity to communicate and share in the yin, internal work that we are all doing during this time. You will find it helpful to talk through your emotional process with friends. Writing down your thoughts and feelings will be more effective.
As a cherry on the cake, the moon is free from the rays of both malefic planets Saturn and Mars during this time, since they do not form whole-sign aspects to her from Aquarius. This is the ideal situation for the moon to be in – even positive aspects from malefic planets are still considered to be somewhat debilitating. Since the 27th is on a Monday, I highly recommend doing lunar magic on this day, as the moon is especially favorable and well-disposed during this time – the lunar spirits called upon during any rituals or workings will be especially able to aid you and answer and requests.
April 30th – May 1st – Moon in Leo
After her stay in Cancer, the Moon moves into Leo on the 30th of April. Though not as essentially dignified here, she shares light with the sun. This hearkens back to a classical doctrine called homozonias or like-engirding, which gives the Moon a lot of power and auspiciousness in the sign of Leo, even though she is without any rulership.
The Leo moon is an excellent period for being productive and getting a lot done. Being a fixed fire sign, Leonine energy burns brightly but also consistently. Thus the moon in Leo has a focused drive to accomplish quite a lot, since the fiery passion to act combines with the steadiness and reliability of a fixed sign.
The moon forms a square to her ruler, the sun. On its own, the sun-moon square and indicate tensions and discord between our own inner drives and desires (the sun) and what our environments and contexts provide for us to do (the moon). For this reason, accomplishing your will, though you may have the drive to get a lot done, will take more legwork on your part. However, this aspect is also positive insofar as the sun is the moon’s current sign ruler, so there is a greater chance that the projects and goals which you initiate during this time will be fruitful.
Roadblocks and tension getting in our way is also indicated by the fact that the moon forms two oppositions to each of the malefics during this time. The moon first opposes Saturn on the 30th of April, which can bring in outer circumstances that keep you from getting what you want. If you are actively pursuing a particular goal, some outer circumstances may keep you from achieving it at first. If you are a strongly leonine or Aquarian person, you may feel some depression or mental confusion at this time, though the fact that Saturn is essentially dignified in Aquarius makes this less severe than it could be.
The moon then opposes Mars the following day. You may feel tense and aggravated, with a shorter temper. Other people may be more argumentative and combative with the things you suggest. There will in general be more interpersonal tension in the air. Thankfully, some of this will be offset by the sextile to venus which perfects shortly beforehand. Any arguments or disagreements had will be resolved fairly quickly.
May 2nd – Moon in Virgo
The Moon moves on into Virgo on the 2nd. Virgo moons are on their own generally good times to get your ducks in a row and sort your life out. Cleaning, organizing, and doing activities which lead to more control and mastery over the details of your life is more successful here. Doing taxes or payroll – really anything involving details and precision – will be more successful now.
The moon is peregrine here, and since Mercury is currently of the daytime sect she is not hosted by a sect mate either. So the moon herself will not be as benefic. This will be a harder time to self-care and emotional exploration which the moon generally desires. It will be easier to get stuck in one’s head, and making mistakes in reasoning is more likely.
Fortunately, however, she forms a trine to Mercury today. Since Mercury can see his place of rulership, the idea in classical astrology is that this planet can “keep an eye on things” and make sure that nothing gets out of hand. This helps to ensure that any difficulties or problems related to the moon’s ill-placement do not have any long-lasting or permanent effects. This also means that she will have help in manifesting her significations and ensuring that the work done during this time is successful.
The moon forms a trine to the sun, which indicates that your outer circumstances will be more overtly supportive and helpful towards you. If you fall down, you won’t hurt yourself. If you make a mistake, others will be more forgiving. The moon also forms a trine to Jupiter, which will provide some measure of emotional buoyancy and groundedness during this time too. Authority figures may be more helpful and supportive of you for the duration of the moon’s stint in Virgo.
