As so often happens around full moons, the collective din and chaos around us is starting to crescendo; the whole world, from the geopolitical landscape to the dimensions of our inner life is going through a period of catharsis.
Now, with the Sun Aquarius and the Moon becoming full in Leo, the clamor of opinions, convictions, and contrasting political ideologies surrounding us begins to culminate as we are called to return to complete our inner world this period: parsing out the noise and nonsense and remembering our truest identities within.
The Full Moon always signifies the apex of the current celestial cycle - it is the terminalization of the energy that has been slowly crescendoing in the aethers since the New Moon. The seedlike potential of the new moon culminates with the full moon. While new moons begin trends, patterns, and cycles, full moons terminalize them.
This energy of culmination can have a charged, even uncontrollable effect on the collective level. For this reason, full moons were considered inauspicious and challenging. Things get a little unhinged, emotions are high, and people are feeling volatile. The unconscious dominates over the conscious. Any doctor or nurse will tell you just how bizarre any hospitals or inpatient facilities can be during full Moons.
This full moon is occurring in Leo, which is ruled by the Sun. Of the seven classical planets, the Sun is closest in essence to the stars in the heavens from which our spirits descended into the material world. Because of this strong association with the Sun, Leonine people have the easiest connection to their absolute spirit and its intentions. Of all the signs of the zodiac, Leo knows most clearly who it is and what it wants.
But this great connection to one’s self-identity, and strong conviction of one’s inner truth, stands in opposition to the Aquarian priorities of the collective and the responsibility to the whole that are the focus during this zodiacal season. Though blessed with great self-knowledge and a strong sense of personal identity, Leo can become overly attached to what it already knows. Ultimately any strong sense of self will preclude any openness to going deeper.
This full moon exaggerates our attachments to self-identities and opinions about who we are. What began as profound self-awareness calcifies as an ego-identity. While we may have core convictions and attachments to particular beliefs and identities, ultimately no self-identity will name the absolute truth of your divinity, as well as the divinity of those around you.
Attached to what we “know” about ourselves so deeply, we close ourselves off to something so much greater that can’t be pegged by a limited self-image.
This full moon is calling us to release our self-identities and attachments. If you were to remove every single descriptor, identity, and quality that you consider a part of yourself…
…what would remain?
It wouldn’t look too much different from those around you.
The world right now wants you to be overly attached to your personal identities and self-image. That way, they can put you in a box, give you curated content that separates you from others, and (most importantly) market to you. But none of those self-descriptors you’ve adopted, no matter how ethical or moral or right, truly describe the infinite nature of your spirit.
Ultimately, this lunation is an invitation - as pundits proclaim a myriad of standpoints on current events around us, as the cultural climate goads us to grip tightly onto our own deeply held dogmas…
…we can see these opinions and identities clearly for what they are, and refuse to allow them to get in the way of seeing the humanity within people around us.
The great paradox this full moon reveals is that by letting go of the superficial, surface-level identities and attachments that you hold, you can find a deeper, more profound core to yourself that none of those descriptors could ever fully encapsulate.
Don’t be limited, and don’t let others limit you. Find the innate, truest spark within that you share with all those around you.
In doing so, you will come back home to your True Self, and show others the way their too.
